“This new 3D series using collected and assembled ivy roots and tendrils (scraped from a long-neglected cement retaining wall in my garden) represents a new direction for my creative impulses as my abstract painter’s body wanes. I’ve been spending less time standing for long hours painting abstract canvases and spending more time collecting and assembling nature’s detritus. A Wabi Sabi perspective influences how I work with dead, discarded or overlook materials to create a composition that is compelling and meaningful. My Scholar Roots series are calligraphic marks intended to promote reflection. ”
